George Zema, Engineering (BARHOF 2022)

BARHOF Inductee George Zema 2022

“Big 610” KFRC engineer George Zema retired in December 2013 after more than 40 years in Bay Area broadcasting. For many years, George was an in-studio engineer who ran the studio control board for many of the KFRC air personalities.  Bobby Ocean (BARHOF 2013) nicknamed him “Flawless Segue”, for his expert handling of musical changes. George spent more than 8 years operating the equipment for the legendary Dr. Don Rose (BARHOF 2006) on Rose’s top-rated KFRC morning show. When the Big 610 changed to Magic 61, George stayed on maintaining the equipment, working on the transmitter towers, IT work, and keeping the KFRC Mobile Studio road ready. Along with Phil Lerza (BARHOF 2009) and Kent Hedberg (BARHOF 2024), George survived many ownership changes. His portfolio includes RKO (610 KFRC, 106.1 KFRC-FM), Alliance Broadcasting (610 KFRC, 99.7 KFRC-FM, 93.3 KYCY) Westinghouse, Infinity, Viacom and CBS Radio (106.9 KIFR, 106.9 KFRC-FM, 99.7 KMVQ, 105.3 KITS, and 1550 KZDG).
