San Francisco Bay Area Radio History
The Bay Area Radio Museum endeavors to research and interpret the rich history of radio broadcasting in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our efforts include, at the most basic level, the creation of “Station Bios” for the hundreds of identifiable radio stations that have been heard on the region’s airwaves since the 20th Century, as well as “BARHOF Bios” for each of the individuals inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. Beyond that, you will find more detailed articles about significant individuals, stations, technologies, or other topics that help tell the story of radio broadcasting in this region. The “search” box throughout the site will help guide your discoveries.
We are pleased to be able to present the seminal work of radio historian John Schneider as a foundation for understanding how it all began.
The Bay Area Radio Museum is proud to present John Schneider’s classic
history of radio in the San Francisco region: “Voices Out of the Fog,” a comprehensive
chronicle of the origins of broadcasting in the Bay Area.
