Since 2006, our annual announcement of the current inductees into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame – BARHOF – has been an occasion to gather with colleagues, friends and fans to celebrate the best and brightest in Bay Area broadcasting.
This year, however … well, let’s just say that 2020 has been an all-around stinker, but that’s no reason not to celebrate the fifteenth group of inductees into BARHOF.
With no Radio Day By The Bay public celebration this year, the announcement was made virtually on Saturday, August 22, via our Youtube Channel, with Rosie Lee Allen (BARHOF 2008) and Ben Fong-Torres (BARHOF 2010) revealing the latest members of this exalted group.
The recipients of this year’s Sherwood Awards, honoring the most popular current personalities in Bay Area radio, were also announced during the program, as was the CHRS/BARHOF Legendary Station Award for 2020.
The BARHOF Class of 2020 includes:
Ron Barr
Warren Boggess
Ken Dito
Lee Hammer
Buddy Hatton
Greg Jarrett
Johnny Morris
Doc Pelzel
Dusti Rhodes
Bill Wattenburg
The recipients of this year’s Sherwood Awards – the most popular Bay Area radio personalities as voted on by Bay Area radio listeners – are:
Program Host: Brent Ferris (KZST, Santa Rosa)
News: John Evans (KCBS, San Francisco)
Sports: Kevin Radich (KCBS, San Francisco)
For 2020, the BARHOF board of directors selected San Francisco’s K101 (KIOI 101.3 FM) as the recipient of our annual Legendary Station Award in recognition of its significant place in Bay Area radio history. K101 becomes the first “second-generation station” to earn Legendary Station status, following its predecessor, KPEN, which was honored in 2015.
Here is the BARHOF 2020 and Sherwood Awards announcement video:
I think at some point that Ray White should be included as a nominee in the BARHOF for his long time work at various radio stations both here and across the country as he has over 50 years with radio broadcasting! I realize that he has recently passed away so we are all deeply saddened by his passing.
We can’t let his work be forgotten and hope that he would be an inductee soon!
And what about the whole KSAN crew? Induct all of ’em! Does it matter that they’ve been off the air for 50 years? Not to me, but probably to the folks who run this outfit.
Dave,
I appreciate sarcasm as much as the next guy, but “the folks who run this outfit” awarded KSAN (The Jive 95) with BARHOF Legendary Station status in 2014, meaning that the station and all of its alumni shared in the recognition.
Here’s our tribute to The Jive 95.
You asked “Does it matter that they’ve been off the air for 50 years?” No, it doesn’t, because the station actually continued through 1980.
