Clarence “Clancy” Cassell worked for nearly 40 years at KCBS, joining the station when the call letters were KQW and the city of license was San Jose. Cassell graduated from San Jose State College with a degree in drama. Aside from his many years as a KCBS news anchor, Cassell also had roles in a number of television dramas.
San Francisco Chroinicle reporter Carl Nolte’s obituary noted that “Cassell had an actor’s looks and a voice that media critic Ben Bagdikian described as having ‘the formal, deep timbre fashionable in early radio drama’.”
Cassell died in 2012 at the age of 92.
