Marshall’s Mavericks
Circa 1934
Charlie Marshall led a popular Western music band on KPO in the 1930s. Marshall was also a regular on the NBC program “Carefree Carnival.” At the time this photograph was taken, the band members included Ace Wright (fiddle), Johnnie Zaper (accordion), Johnnie O’Brian (harmonica) and Mona (girl singer), in addition to Charlie, who played guitar.
The reverse side of this publicity photograph, personally autographed by Marshall, bears a schedule of radio programs that the band appeared on at this time:
