Roy Trumbull was widely recognized for his technical expertise as an engineer in both radio and television and for his encyclopedic knowledge of the Bay Area’s broadcasting history.
Born in San Francisco, Trumbull worked as an announcer before focusing his technical skills on several stations, including KMPX, KDFC, KBRG, KAFE, KPAT and KRE, where he served as Chief Engineer.
Trumbull later worked at KNEW, then KCBS, where he handled special projects for CBS. Trumbull later joined San Francisco’s KRON-TV as assistant Chief Engineer.
In addition to his broadcast industry work, Trumbull recorded hundreds of texts as the Story Spieler. Many of these recordings have been preserved at Archive.org.
Roy Trumbull died in 2013 at age 73.
