Sylvia is a Bay Area native. She was born in Castro Valley, attended Sunset High School in Hayward and followed up with studies at California State University, Hayward. She began her radio career as a summer intern on KSFO/KYA in 1984, fortunate to have been mentored by the great Carter B. Smith while she was there. Working her way up to news producer, then overnight DJ at those stations, Sylvia moved to KFRC for the evening shift, staying with KFRC until its demise in 2005. Sylvia’s later accomplishments include on-air personality for Star 101.3 and 98.1 The Breeze.
Sylvia is Mexican-American and stayed close to her roots. She danced Ballet Folklorico Mexicano for 25 years. Her performances were spotlighted on local and national television. She traveled throughout Mexico and the United States performing. Sylvia has been a mentor at Chabot College’s “Puente Program” for 25 years.
