Lloyd Lindsay Young, Specialty (BARHOF 2023)

BARHOF Inductee Lloyd Lindsay Young 2023

Lloyd is a weather reporter who gained notoriety for his over-the-top delivery and antics. Young grew up in Hollywood, attended Los Angeles City College and broke into broadcasting in 1962, when he started at Bakersfield’s KWAK AM. His trademark intro was”Hellooooo (insert city)”, which he started doing in Idaho. While working at KNAK in Salt Lake City,  his big break came when KGO’s news director heard him on the air while on a skiing vacation in Sun Valley in the 1970s.

Starting in 1996, while living and working in Bakersfield, Young was also a weatherman on San Francisco’s KGO Radio, working the afternoon drive-time newscast.  He added the morning drive-time slot in 2009, replacing the retired Leo Ciolino.  In 2011, KGO fired Young along with many of its talk-show hosts. It is Young who says “it’s a trip, it’s got a funky beat, and I can bug out to it” in the Beastie Boys song “B-Boy Bouillabaisse” The group commissioned Young to appear on their album when they became a fan of his work.

Young has had cameo appearances in the films “Working Girl” and “Age Isn’t Everything”.
