Kent Hedberg is a former member of KFRC’s legendary engineering team. Kent’s career in Bay Area broadcasting touches on many colorful aspects of radio history, including spending several years exciting thousands of Marine World Africa USA visitors as their Show Announcer, and helping Marine World design an iconic broadcast studio.
Kent began his broadcasting career as a part-time engineer at historic KLIV in San Jose, then transitioned to full-time responsibilities on the air and behind the scenes as engineer, operations manager and acting station manager at KVEZ and the legendary KSOL in the early 1970’s. Later, Kent oversaw the many sound systems at Marine World Africa USA, where he was also their announcer, describing the park’s many thrilling acts to fans. In 1975, Kent was hired as an engineer at 610 KFRC in San Francisco during their historic RKO days, where among other duties, he helped to design the famous “KFRC Sturgeon” mobile studio, a traveling broadcast home for radio greats like Dr. Don Rose, Sue Hall, Dave Sholin and many more top KFRC DJs. Kent was the primary caretaker for that rolling studio, overseeing its operations for over a decade. Back home in the studio, Kent stayed with KFRC through that station’s many ownership and format changes, until his retirement in 2008.
