KFJC 89.7 FM Los Altos Hills, CA

KFJC logoFoothill College’s KFJC signed on at 88.5 MHz on the FM band on October 20, 1959. The station’s historians note that the original studio was, in fact, a broom closet on the old Foothill campus in Mountain View. With a 10-watt signal, coverage was modest at best.

Over the years, KFJC increased its signal strength to 250 watts and moved into new facilities on today’s Foothill College campus in Los Altos Hills. The station won the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s “Best Community College Station” award in 2012 and is remembered for an epic 1983 stunt, “Maximum Louie Louie”, which saw DJ’s play more than 800 versions of the song “Louie, Louie” back to back to back…for 63 hours.
