Walt Jamond

BARHOF Inductee Walt Jamond 2010

Walt Jamond’s friendly voice graced numerous Bay Area radio stations over the course of a lengthy career, many years of which were spent on the overnight shift.  He was a mainstay on KROW in the 1950’s, during which he was also a popular master of ceremonies and made numerous television appearances.

In the early 60’s, his overnight “Quiet Hour” show was a fixture on KABL.

Jamond’s work was found all over the Bay Area radio dial, with stops including KABL, KQBY, KRE/KPAT, KNBA and KMPX.

In June, 1972, Jamond was among the broadcasters who re-initiated the KRE call letters on Berkeley’s 1400 AM frequency, switching back from KPAT to mark the 50th anniversary of KRE’s original broadcasts.

Walt Jamond died in 1998 at age 77.
