Ted Robinson

BARHOF Inductee Ted Robinson 2012

Ted Robinson was born in Queens, NY and raised in Rockville Centre, on Long Island. A lifelong sports fan, he knew he wasn’t good enough to make a living as an athlete, but saw a pathway to a sports career via broadcasting.

Robinson began covering sports while a student at the University of Notre Dame, where he held down disc jockey shifts at the campus radio station and called every game he could find.

While his lengthy broadcast resume includes numerous Olympic Games, play-by-play work for the New York Mets and Minnesota Twins, and a long list of tennis events, Robinson’s Bay Area radio credentials are well-known.

Robinson was first heard on Bay Area radio as a 23-year-old, working on Oakland A’s broadcasts in 1980. In 1982, he joined KCBS as a sports anchor and the following year, became the Golden State Warriors’ radio voice.

He worked in the broadcast booth for the San Francisco Giants for nine seasons, and was the radio play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco 49ers from 2009 until 2018.

Robinson was the radio voice of Stanford football for 13 years.

Robinson’s voice is featured in the movie A Few Good Men as he calls a Minnesota Twins game being watched by Tom Cruise‘s character.
