Mike Krukow is a former Major League Baseball player who followed his playing career by becoming a beloved and respected voice of the San Francisco Giants.
The Southern California native attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he was a star pitcher. He left Cal Poly after his second season when he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. Krukow would play for the Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies before he was traded to the Giants in 1982. He retired from baseball after the 1989 season, his 14th in the Major Leagues.
Krukow began broadcasting as an occasional color analyst for KNBR in 1990 and became a full-time broadcaster in 1994. His role on Giants broadcasts is inextricably linked to his longtime television partner, fellow Giants alumnus Duane Kuiper. Though “Kruk and Kuip” are instantly recognizable for their television work, Krukow’s radio credentials are strong. His voice has been heard on KNBR for 35 seasons, including regular call-in segments on the station’s morning show. Krukow and fellow Giants broadcasters follow each Giants game with a free-flowing roundtable called Postgame Wrap.
Krukow was inducted into the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987. He was named California’s 2015, 2017 and 2023 Sportscaster of the Year, as selected by the National Sports Media Association (NSMA).
