San Diego-born Brent Farris is the son of a U.S. Navy commander. His boyhood took him to numerous hometowns before he graduated from West High School in Torrance, CA.
Farris got his start on the North Bay media landscape as a photographer for the Marin Independent Journal. He discovered a love for radio in college and began his radio career working at KTIM in San Rafael. There would be stops at KBLC in Lakeport, KUKI in Ukiah, and KNVR in Chico before Farris joined Santa Rosa’s KZST in 1985. He would be a Sonoma County morning fixture for the next 38 years. Farris says 2013 BARHOF inductee Bobby Ocean told him it was better to be a big fish in a small pond, advice with which Farris came to agree.
Farris, the longtime program director at KZST in addition to his on-air duties, retired in 2023.
