Bobby Ocean

BARHOF Inductee Bobby Ocean 2013

Born Ernest Raymond Lenhart, Bobby Ocean was first heard on Bay Area radio on Pittsburg’s KKIS as “Captain Turntable”

Ocean’s voice became synonymous with Top 40 radio, whether you know him as Radio Ray Farrell, Johnny Scott, Captain Turntable or, simply, Bobby Ocean.

Bobby worked at many stations over the years, most notably KFRC in San Francisco and KHJ in Los Angeles, and solid ratings followed him wherever he went. By his own admission, Ocean was hired and fired or left of his own volition from KFRC eight times over a thirty-year span of time.

Notably, as the “last day” for the original Big 610 KFRC approached, Bobby had called in “sick” for two days.  Program Director Dave Sholin, newsman John Evans, and legendary morning man Dr. Don Rose called Ocean and asked him to come in for his last show and make it one for the history books.Ocean did show up for a memorable finale, closing with this reminder: “Nobody can ever take away your memories!”

In addition to his DJ shifts, Bobby Ocean had notable success providing voiceover and imaging work for numerous radio stations.
