Bill Moen

BARHOF Inductee Bill Moen 2006

Minnesota native Bill Moen moved to the Bay Area in 1960 and became one of the region’s enduring radio voices.

Moen held down the morning slot at KABL from 1960 to 1993, proving that even on a “beautiful music” station, there was room for wit and warmth. It wasn’t an immediate thing: for the first 14 years at KABL, he wasn’t allowed to say his name on the air.

Moen left KABL in 1993 during a rebranding of the station and retired to Lake County. He was lured back to radio at Lakeport’s KXBX for a 20-year run before retiring for good.

Bill Moen died in 2022 at age 93.
