Oklahoma native Monte Moore became the radio play-by-play announcer for the Kansas City Athletics in 1962. When owner Charles O. Finley moved the A’s to Oakland in 1968, Moore came along and remained the baseball team’s lead radio announcer through the 1977 season. His work was heard on stations KNBR, KEST, and KEEN. During Moore’s tenure, he worked more than 3,000 consecutive games.
Moore’s folksy style was heard nationwide on NBC’s televised broadcasts of the 1972 through 1974 World Series, all won by the A’s. He went on to serve as an announcer on NBC’s Game of the Week. He also returned to broadcasting work with the A’s, serving on television broadcasts between 1985 and 1992.
During his career with the A’s, Moore became a radio station owner, purchasing KTIP in Porterville, CA (Tulare County).
