Bonnie Chastain ended her Bay Area radio career as News Director and morning anchor at KOIT.
Prior to that, she worked in the news department at KSFO and at KCBS, which is where she met the man who would become her husband, morning host Dave McElhatton (before his jump to TV). Chastain, then one of the few female “board operators” in the industry, was mentioned in several paragraphs of a 1976 New York Times article about the all-news radio format.
She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from College of San Mateo in 1982.
Chastain died in 1988 at age 50.
