KWAI has been owned by the nonprofit Christian broadcaster Educational Media Foundation (EMF) since 2019, when the station was part of an acquisition of six stations from Cumulus Media. Cumulus had acquired the station from Susquehanna Radio Corp. in 2006, several years after Susquehanna turned the station into a satellite of its San Francisco station KFOG and changed the call letters to KFFG.
Between 2019 and 2023, KWAI carried the call letters KJLV before EMF shifted those call letters to its Los Gatos station.
KWAI carries EMF’s Air1 program service and provides no local programming.
