Adding to a lengthy list of call letter, ownership and format changes for the station that went on the air in San Rafael as KTIM in 1947, KSFN came into being on August 15, 2010. At the time, the station was owned by Mapleton Communications, a Monterey, CA-based owner of numerous small and medium market stations in several states.

Mapleton had purchased the station five years earlier to simulcast the signal of the legendary Santa Cruz County KPIG-FM, which Mapleton had owned since 2001. Between 2005 and 2010, the 1510 AM station was known as KPIG.

The switch to KSFN in 2010 brought a dramatic format change. KPIG’s eclectic music mix was gone, replaced by a Chinese-language format.

Mapleton operated the station until the end of 2019, when it completed a sale to Alfredo Plascencia’s Lazer Media. The format was changed to Regional Mexican a few months before the sale closed.

KSFN Radio Lazer logoFamily-owned Lazer Media airs the Radio Lazer Modern Regional Mexican format on KSFN. Since 2024, the signal has also been delivered at 99.3 FM on a San Francisco-licensed translator, K257GE.
