In 2005, the 92.1 FM station in Walnut Creek was acquired by Coast Radio, owned by John and Jim Levitt. They were the sons of Joe Levitt, the longtime owner of San Jose’s KXRX and they’d named their radio ownership company after the radio store their father had run in the Santa Clara Valley years earlier.
With the new call letters KKDV, the station became part of a stable of suburban Bay Area stations including KKIQ in Livermore and KUIC in Vacaville. Under Coast Radio’s ownership, the stations billed themselves as “Your Hometown Station”.
Under the guidance of Coast’s longtime corporate program director Jim Hampton, the stations aired an Adult Contemporary format, largely using local air talent. KKDV picked up San Jose Sharks hockey broadcasts in 2009.
The Coast Radio era came to an end in 2015 with the sale of KUIC, KKIQ, and KKDV to Oregon-based Alpha Media. Alpha paid $11.5 million for the three stations and initially maintained the Adult Contemporary format on KKDV. That changed in April 2022 when KKDV became part of the “Bay Country” simulcast, carrying the Country music programming of San Jose’s KBAY.
Alpha Media was sold to Jeff Warshaw’s Connoisseur Media in 2025.
