KDOS replaced KFMR at the 104.9 slot on the Bay Area FM dial in July 1979. The station had been purchased for $500,000 by Spanish Metro, Inc., a group headed by Salinas station owner Robert Williams.
The Spanish-language format billed as La Chiquita was heard on KDOS for the next five years. The call letters vanished from the station in 1984 when Spanish Metro grabbed the recently-discarded KBRG callsign. It had become available when Entercom (the forerunner of Audacy) switched its San Francisco station’s ID to KITS.
