KBGG was a short-lived phase in the history of the 98.1 frequency in the Bay Area.
The call letters first appeared on January 2, 1995, several months after the format on precursor KABL-FM had been switched from soft Adult Contemporary to a ’70s-focused classic hits mix. The station branded itself as “Big 98.1”.
Later in 1995, KBGG was sold by Shamrock Broadcasting to Chancellor Media. The transaction included Shamrock’s other Bay Area stations: KNEW, KABL, and KSAN.
On July 23, 1997, KBGG vanished as Chancellor flipped the format to urban adult contemporary under new call letters and branding: KISQ, “98.1 Kiss FM”.
