Following military service, in 1969, McGovern arrived at KSFO, joining the all-star lineup of “The World’s Greatest Radio Station”.

He next played at a role at another legendary San Francisco station, joining KSAN-FM during the “Jive 95” years. McGovern recalls program director Tom Donahue requiring him to take daily “music lessons” from Bonnie Simmons (BARHOF 2010) so he could expand his knowledge of the rock music being aired on KSAN. He left KSAN in 1979, spending time on Los Angeles radio stations while pursuing a parallel career in acting.

McGovern would later be heard on K-101 between 1998 and 1992 and KSFO/KYA-FM between 1992 and 1994.

A 2005 Marin Independent-Journal profile referred to McGovern as a “one-man entertainment industry”.

Terry McGovern has played roles in dozens of films and television shows, appeared in numerous stage productions, voiced hundreds of commercials, and lent his talents to a lengthy list of video games. He also created the voice of Launchpad McQuack for Walt Disney’s “Ducktales” and “Darkwing Duck”.

Terry McGovern is the founder and creative director of The Marin Actors’ Workshop
