Susan Leigh Taylor

BARHOF Inductee Susan Leigh Taylor 2012

Susan Leigh Taylor’s long radio career is really two careers: one in which she was a well-regarded disc jockey in Louisville, Charlotte, New York, Chicago and San Francisco; and another which saw her become a respected radio news anchor.

Taylor (born Susan Platt) got an early start in broadcasting. She was a disc jockey on a commercial station in Kendallville, IN at the age of 16.  She remained on the air while attending college, then moved on to stations in New York, Chicago and finally to San Francisco in 1989.

Her first San Francisco job was at K-101. She followed that with a stint at the Westinghouse news-talk station KPIX AM/FM between 1994 and 1996.

Taylor joined KCBS in 1997, co-anchoring mornings with Al Hart until his retirement, then teaming with Stan Bunger in 2000. Together, Susan and Stan won several AP “Anchors of the Year” awards.

Taylor retired from KCBS in 2020.
