Kim Vestal

BARHOF Inductee Kim Vestal 2023

Kim grew up in Watsonville, listening to KDON and KMBY, before attending San Jose State University, where she cut her teeth doing air shifts for the campus radio station, KSJS. In 1979, Kim was hired by George Sampson to do weekend news at KLIV and KARA. She later had great success as the first solo woman morning show host at KARA in Santa Clara, from 1980 to 2002.  At that time, Kim joined KBAY as the midday on-air personality. From there, in 2006, she lent her talent and voice to KRTY Legendary Country. In 2017, Kim joined All News KCBS as a traffic anchor. Kim says the old saying “The show must go on” has been her go-to both at work and in her personal life.

Morrning Kim, happy Friday. I lived at a rehab hospital in San Jose’ from ’86-’88 and KARA was great therapy for me!
Prescott Valley, AZ is now home, where I recalled my KARA happy days this morning.

I remember Kim very well
I worked at the radio station KARA in Santa Clara at the phone company back then. I supported the stations radio link back to the transmitter. Back in the 80s KARA was in automation. They used 8 track tapes for the spots and the music.sometimes the tapes jammed up. 😀

I recently heard Kim on KCBS.
She is a great gal. I’d like to reach out to her again d share thoughts.
