Jim Eason

BARHOF Inductee Jim Eason 2007

Jim Eason was born in Burlington, NC.  After serving in the Air Force as a meteorologist and working for Armed Forces Radio in Monaco, he attended San Francisco State University, where he became one of a long list of SF State students to get his first “big-time radio” experience on KSFO’s Saturday night program Records at Random.

Eason had a stint at KCBS in 1966-1967 where he created and hosted a call-in game show called Testing 1,2,3 before joining KGO in 1968 in a weekend time slot. He took over the afternoon weekday talk show position in the early 70’s, beginning a phase of his career that dovetailed with KGO’s glory years atop Bay Area radio ratings.

n 1993, Eason moved back to his native North Carolina, continuing to do his KGO show from a home studio. Three years later, management moved Eason’s show to co-owned KSFO. In 2000, Eason announced his retirement.

Jim Eason died in 2025 at age 89.
