When Wisconsin native Duane Kuiper’s 12-year career as a Major League Baseball player ended, he was already a radio broadcaster.
During his final seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Kuiper began doing regular reports on the team’s flagship station KNBR.
After his 1985 retirement, Kuiper provided commentary on Giants radio and TV broadcasts through the end of that season. His broadcast work with the Giants continued through the 1992 season. He then spent 1993 with the expansion Colorado Rockies before returning to the Bay Area, where he and longtime partner (and former Giants teammate) Mike Krukow have established themselves as an integral part of the local culture.
Kuiper has been a finalist several times for the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award for baseball broadcasting excellence. He has won more than a dozen Emmy awards and was selected by the National Sports Media Association as California’s 2025 and 2020 Sportscaster of the Year.
