Alex Bennett was born Bennett Schwarzmann in San Francisco. After attending Marin County’s Drake High School, he started his radio career at KTIM in San Rafael.
Through the 1960’s and 1970’s, Bennett was heard on numerous major-market stations including KILT (Houston), WLOL (Minneapolis), WIND (Chicago), WMCA and WPLJ (both New York City).
He “came home” to San Francisco in 1980 to join KMEL. Bennett’s morning show often brought local comedians on the air and he became a significant force in the burgeoning Bay Area comedy scene.
Bennett would shift to KQAK and then KITS before leaving broadcast radio in 1997.
After that, he launched an early venture in internet videocasting, hosted a technology-focused show on CNET Radio, and briefly appeared on KNEW when it shifted to talk programming in 2003.
In 2004, Bennett returned to New York City where he would host a liberal-focused talk show on SiriusXM for the next ten years.
