Jim Eason at KGO (1978)

In the short excerpt from an undated mid-April 1972 broadcast heard here, Jim Eason is preparing to take a call from a listener when his producer slides a page torn from the April 17, 1972, issue of Sports Illustrated in front of him. Almost instantly, Jim’s composure is laid waste, and he melts into a fit of laughter from which he must struggle mightily to recover.

The brazen image that launched the meltdown? It’s from a Cricketeer clothing ad, featuring a young man who has contorted himself into an interesting position, all for the sake of marketing a suit of clothes.

Following nine years in the Air Force as a meteorologist, Eason came to the Bay Area, majoring in radio and television at San Francisco State.

After working at several stations locally, including KCBS, he became the host of KGO’s weeknight program in June 1970, moving to the 1-4 p.m. shift later in the decade.

Jim Eason was elected to the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2007.
