KJBS Radio, San Francisco
Reception Verification Letter
February 6, 1939
This letter from Radio Station KJBS verifies a reception report sent in by listener Richard Wright, who had successfully tuned the San Francisco station in at his home in Chicago. Collecting these verification letters or similar postcards — known as a “QSL” — were highly valued by listeners intent on “hauling in” distant stations.
As noted in the letter, KJBS operated on 1070 kilocycles (or 280.2 meters) with 500 watts at this time. KJBS became today’s KFAX, which broadcasts fulltime with 50,000 watts on 1100 kHz. from its transmitter plant in Hayward.
