NBC Radio, San Francisco The Announcer’s Delight Circa 1930s

Every NBC-San Francisco announcer had stories to tell about encounters with the "announcer's delight" (at right in photo). Network announcers - not the engineers - were responsible for pushing the correct series of buttons to direct programs to the right stations. Sometimes the wrong show or an inappropriate announcement went over the airwaves. Once an errant voice interrupted a speech by the Pope to announce, "this nonsense was brought to you by the National Broadcasting Company."
