KSFO Presents
“The Giants Win The Pennant”
Hi-Lites Of The 1962 Baseball Season
Featuring Russ Hodges, Lon Simmons and Bill King
Fantasy Records, 1962
A retrospective of the Giants’ pennant-winning 1962 campaign, as presented by their flagship station, KSFO, featuring the voices of Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons — plus an occasional entry by the third man in the booth, Bill King.
The title of the LP is derived from Hodges’ famed call of Bobby Thomson’s 1951 “Shot Heard ‘Round The World,” repurposed here for the transplanted San Francisco edition of the team.
This recording was released as a long-playing album on Fantasy Records (catalog number GB-1962) and was produced by Franklin Mieuli, who also owned San Francisco’s KHIP (106.9 FM) and had a close relationship with Berkeley-based Fantasy, which was best known as a jazz label.
Following the 1962 Giants’ season, the entrepreneurial Mieuli sold KHIP, bought the NBA’s fledgling Philadelphia Warriors, moved them to San Francisco, and hired Bill King as his play-by-play man.
All four men mentioned here – Hodges (2008), Simmons (2006), King (2006) and Mieuli (2007) – have been honored by induction into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame.

Brings back wonderful memories from my childhood.
Can this album still be purchased?
Check eBay, Jeff. It pops up on there every once in a while.

I found this LP in a thrift shop in Hayward 40 years ago in Righteous Brothers jacket, for 50 cents ! Still have it. Went to school in Hayward, yes with Jon Miller for 5 years.
This is the best album I’ve ever had, my cousin and I heard it so much we memorized it thanks again KSFO . I love to have a cassette or a DVD of it or even a CD too bad but I got it here now thank you
I wish you had many more broadcasts. I attended a number of Giants games in 1962, and was at the Cow Palace when the Seals won the WHL title in 1963.
The 1962 highlights bring back memories of that great summer. I went to about 20 games that year, including the final game of the regular season.
