KRE Radio Building (Photo, Circa 1950)
The KRE Radio Building in Berkeley, circa 1950

This is a view of the completed art deco KRE studio building at 601 Ashby Avenue. A large studio with a spring-suspended floor was added on to the left side of the original transmitter building in 1938; offices occupied all of the addition in front. (The upper story of offices was not added until 1948.)

This photo was taken some time between 1949, when KRE-FM went on the air, and 1957, when the 178 ft. tower shown was blown down in a windstorm.
