KYA Radio, San Francisco
Transmitter Building & Tower
Circa 1937
In January 2008, the Bay Area Radio Museum acquired via auction a collection of fifteen photographs bearing images of Radio Station KYA — its transmitter building and tower, various staff members, and studio facilities — apparently dating from the 1930s through the 1950s. (Several of these photographs may be viewed by clicking here.)
The above unretouched view of the KYA transmitter building and 450-foot Bethlehem Steel antenna tower appears to have been taken at the time of the facility’s construction, or shortly after it was opened on May 15, 1937.
