Hal Ramey

Millbrae native Hal Ramey graduated from the College of San Mateo and San Jose State University and spent a year as San Jose State’s sports information director before being named sports director at KXRX. 

While delivering regular sportscast for the San Jose station, Ramey was also heard handling play-by-play for San Jose State football, Oakland A’s baseball, and San Jose Earthquakes soccer, starting when the team joined the old North American Soccer League in 1976. Ramey would later call games for the San Jose Clash (later Earthquakes) when the team joined Major League Soccer (MLS) in 1996.

Ramey also broadcast Stanford University and Santa Clara University sports on the radio.

Following a few years as the voice of University of Oregon football and basketball, Ramey returned to the Bay Area to join KCBS in 1987. He served as the sports director and afternoon sports anchor for 28 years.
