Cuban-born Amaury Pi-Gonzalez is one of the pioneers of Spanish-language baseball play-by-play in America.
Pi-Gonzalez emigrated to Florida in 1961 and served in the US Army between 1966 and 1968.
He began his Bay Area radio career as the Oakland A’s Spanish-language voice in 1977. While he remains most-identified with the A’s, he has also broadcast in Spanish for the Giants, Mariners and Angels, making him the only person to broadcast in Spanish for four Major League Baseball teams.
Pi-Gonzalez served as voice of the Golden State Warriors from 1992 through 1998. He has provided coverage of the Caribbean World Series, World Cup Soccer, and the Super Bowl.
