Al Newman

BARHOF Inductee Al Newman 2010

Al Newman was responsible for assembling the talent lineup that led the 1960’s-1970’s version of KSFO to its self-claimed status as “The World’s Greatest Radio Station”.

As KSFO’s Program Director, Newman presided over a staff that included more than a few mercurial personalities, not the least of which was the legendary Don Sherwood.

Newman was responsible for many programming gems of his own, including 1968’s “Laff Off”, a 12-hour program presenting comedy recordings. At the time, Newman promised “…no less than 1233 one-line gags, 657 funny stories, and 42 1/2 of the best comedy cuts on record.”

Away from the radio station, Newman became known as an accomplished painter and sculptor.
