Stan was born in San Francisco and raised in San Jose, when “The Valley” meant the Santa Clara Valley, not the Silicon Valley. He’s a graduate of West Valley College and San Francisco State University and is a member of the SFSU Alumni Hall of Fame.
Bunger’s early radio career included stops at stations in King City, Sonora, and South Lake Tahoe before his Bay Area break at KXRX in San Jose. He’s best known for his tenure as morning anchor at KCBS, where he teamed with Susan Leigh Taylor (BARHOF 2012) for over 20 years. Stan’s legendary conversations with football icon John Madden (BARHOF 2015) formed the foundation for the book Mornings With Madden: My Radio Life with an American Legend.
