KNBR/68, San Francisco
Mike Cleary
Thursday, September 14, 1978
Frank Dill is away on jury duty, so Mike has taken over the KNBR morning show for the day, with an assist from flying traffic reporter Hap Harper and a surprise visit from the ever-curmudgeonly Tom Haggerty.
The broadcast heard here also includes news headlines with Mark Provost, a visit with Peter Laufer (who is working on rescuing and restoring a painting by a famed local artist), and an interesting commercial voiced by the legendary Casey Kasem, touting low “chicken-feed fares” on Continental Airlines.
Mike Cleary joined KNBR in 1970 as vacation relief, before moving to the afternoon shift. He was elected to the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2007 with the second class to be inducted, one year after Frank Dill, who was inducted with the initial BARHOF class. Hap Harper was inducted in 2008.
Sidebar: so who was the ever-curmudgeonly Tom Haggerty? He was portrayed by none other than … Mike Cleary’s own father!

Hello…I am trying to find the Frank & Mike audio probably in the early 80’s when the Russian Consulate staff erected plywood around something on the roof and somewhere along there some idiot tied a bunch of helium balloons to a lawn chair & took off…F&M did a hilarious skit of President Reagan in his helium balloon lawn chair flying over the consulate trying to figure out what the Russians were up to…can you offer suggestions on where I can find that?
