Isabelle Lemon was director of promotions at KNBR during the station’s glory years in the 1970s and 1980s. While the station’s on-air talent lineup was formidable, Lemon was responsible during her 32 years at KNBR for helping boost the station to the forefront locally. She served as the creative and organizational force behind listener-friendly events such as the “KNBR Good Times Parade”, “Giants FanFest”, the Bridge to Bridge Run, and numerous charity events.
A native of Modesto and a graduate of the University of California, Lemon worked as a reporter at the Modesto Bee before finding work in advertising. She is remembered as the person behind perhaps the single most-recognizable bit of visual branding in Bay Area radio history: the “blue plate” California vehicle license plate bearing the characters”KNBR 68″.
Isabelle Lemon died in 2026 at age 89.
