
Legendary KSFO music director Elma Greer started her long tenure with that station in 1960. In 1957, Greer had returned from Los Angeles to her native Bay Area to work as a producer of the Del Courtney television show at KPIX and to promote records for Eric Distributors and Chatton Distributors.
In 1960 she moved to KSFO as music director and assistant program director. Her skill in selecting the music and spotting hit records was known throyghout the industry. She won Gavin Report Music Director of the Year awards several times.
While Greer worked with legendary KSFO disc jockeys such as Don Sherwood, Carter B. Smith and Dan Sorkin, one of her favorite duties was to help San Francisco State University students pull records for their appearances on Records at Random, a Sunday night showcase of SF State talent on KSFO.
In 1977 she left KSFO to work as the Editor of Country Music for the Gavin Report.
Elma Greer died in 2009 at age 83.
