Dave Sholin

BARHOF Inductee Dave Sholin 2008

San Francisco native and San Francisco State University graduate Dave Sholin is a music industry legend and charter member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He was first heard on SF State’s KSFS, a “radio” station with no licensed transmitter that has been the training ground for many Bay Area broadcasters.

He became a DJ and music director at San Jose’s KLIV, billing himself as “Your Duke” (a nickname he says was bestowed on him by a high school sweetheart). Sholin’s reputation for picking the hits soon earned him a job at KFRC, where he would be named national Music Director of the Year by the Gavin Report before being named RKO’s National Music Director.

Sholin served as Top 40 Editor at the Gavin Report from 1984 to 1993, simultaneously serving as program director at KFRC.

He hosted nationally-syndicated radio shows such as Countdown USA on Westwood One and The Insider on Premiere Radio. Sholin also served as vice president of promotion for Island Records and held the title of vice president of pop promotion at Capitol Records.

When CBS decided to revitalize the KFRC brand on the 106.9 FM frequency in 2007, Sholin was hired to co-host the morning show with Celeste Perry (BARHOF 2014). The gig ended a year later when CBS decided to use the 106.9 FM signal to simulcast all-news KCBS.

Sholin moved to Bend, OR and continued his broadcasting career on KSJJ 102.9 FM.
