Born in Alameda and raised in Oakland, Ben Fong-Torres became internationally-known as a writer and editor at Rolling Stone magazine. But his Bay Area radio roots are deep.
Fong-Torres spent time as a DJ on the “Jive 95”-era KSAN and later hosted a program on KQED entitled Fog City Radio.
The author of numerous books on rock music personalities, Fong-Torres was required reading for the Bay Area radio community between 2005 and 2019. His “Radio Waves” column in the San Francisco Chronicle covered the Bay Area radio industry in detail.
Fong-Torres is a graduate of San Francisco State University and a member of the SFSU Alumni Hall of Fame.
