George Carl was a phenomenal man, and I was honored to be a friend of his, and to share in our outdoor media experiences. He and I fished the lakes in Oregon for huge brown trout,and we spent a fantastic 10 days one time in Thailand, traveling to lakes on the border of Burma, catching giant snakehead fish and transverse barbards, sleeping on floating motels and eating unbelievable food. We had a 10-foot cobra swim by during dinner once evening, and my floating “motel” room had a big hole in the floor to the water, that I plugged with a plastic bottle so I wouldn’t get a midnight “visitor”. Fishing off an open Thai fishing boat out of Phuket, around the islands that Leonardo DeCaprio made famous in his movie “The Beach”. George was simply ALWAYS happy and smiling, and the MOST friendly person I have ever met. Jovial, always smiling, easy to laugh and extremely intelligent, I will remember this fine man forever.
