NEW AUDIO POSTED! Volunteer Andrew Welburn has finished digitizing hundreds of hours of newly-discovered Bay Area radio programming. Soon we will add many of these shows to this site under the station categories, along with dates and information about their airing. Most of these rare audio archives have been buried in garages and attics and file cabinets, many of them airchecks saved on obsolete formats, like analogue open reel. Help CHRS Fund “KSAN Jive 95: The Movie”

Our CHRS Radio Dog Production, “KSAN Jive 95: The Movie,” continues in production. But making a feature length documentary is costly. We are seeking to raise $150,000. The KSAN Jive 95 story is important for CHRS to tell and immortalize in film. KSAN during the period from 1968-1980 was pivotal in the development of our popular culture. ET Project

Our museum houses several hundred electrical transcriptions (also called “transcription discs”) of radio programs, now being encoded for our website for visitors to enjoy. The audio transcription disc collection of The California Historical Radio Society is being made available in encoded format. These 16″ discs represent audio history of events and people of Berkeley, the San Francisco Bay area, and the United States. James Gabbert, BARHOF Class of 2006, a true Bay Area radio icon has shared an extensive collection of newspaper articles, correspondence and advertising chronicling his extensive career in Bay Area Broadcasting. James Jeffrey Gabbert was born in Chico, Calif., in 1936. The son of a diplomat, Jim grew up in El Salvador, Paraguay, Argentina, and finally Costa Rica where he finished high school.
