One of the Bay Area’s all-time favorite and most popular radio personalities is Chris Edwards, shown above while hosting the 6 to 11 a.m. shift at San Francisco’s simulcasting KSFO (560 AM) and KYA (93.3 FM) on Saturday mornings.

Raised in New York City, Edwards arrived as the afternoon man at the original KYA (1260 AM) in 1968, a position he held until moving over to K-101 as host of “The Chris Edwards Solid Gold Time Machine” in 1976. In addition to his on-air duties, Edwards also worked through the 1980s as an account representative, selling advertising time for K-101.

He joined KSFO/KYA-FM in a similar dual role in 1988, and subsequently was an account executive for Clear Channel in San Francisco for many years — mostly representing KKSF — before jumping briefly to the freshly transplanted KTRB (860 AM) in 2007 as sales and marketing specialist, following the station’s move from Modesto.

With the re-launching of Classic Hits KFRC (106.9 FM) in the Summer of 2007, Chris Edwards was brought in by CBS Radio management to represent the legendary station to the local business community.

Chris Edwards was elected to the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2018.

An avid promotor of the station during his on-air years, Chris’s energy carried over to sales, where he moved full time in 1976. In that year he was awarded the prestigious Robertson Advertising Account Executive of the Year award, presented annually in recognition of the Bay Area’s most successful radio sales person.

Chris remained an integral part of KYA until 1980, when he made a move to K-101.  He was later reunited with the KYA call letters in 1988 upon joining the “Rock and Roll Classics” station KYA (93.3 FM), simulcast with KSFO (560 AM).    There he performed in a dual role as Account Executive during the week and host of 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. shift on Saturdays – continuing until 1992
