CE KYA-early 70s

On air at KYA 1260, early 70’s

New York-born Chris Edwards joined the original KYA (1260 AM) in early 1968, coming from his highly-rated morning drive show at WFUN, Miami. Known as “Big Fat Chrissy Edwards”, Chris hosted the 6 to 10 AM show upon his arrival at KYA, later moving to afternoon drive. Chris Edwards 02

With his vivacious personality and quick wit, Chris was a favorite among KYA listeners. In his first year at KYA, the station achieved some of the highest ratings in its history – with Chris’s show consistently at the top of the charts.

Having fun with loyal listeners

An avid promoter of the station during his on-air years, Chris’s energy carried over to sales, where he moved full time in 1976. In that year he was awarded the prestigious Robertson Advertising Account Executive of the Year award, presented annually in recognition of the Bay Area’s most successful radio salesperson.

Chris remained an integral part of KYA until 1980, when he made a move to K-101.  He was later reunited with the KYA call letters in 1988 upon joining the “Rock and Roll Classics” station KYA (93.3 FM), simulcast with KSFO (560 AM). There he performed in a dual role as Account Executive during the week and host of 6 to 11 AM shift on Saturdays, continuing until 1992.
