KITS Radio 105.3
1983-Present

San Francisco, California

KITS began its life in the late 1950s as KBCO, a classical music station, under the ownership of Saul Levine. In 1964, KBCO became KBRG. It retained those call letters until February 1983, when the station moved to a high-energy Top 40  "Hot Hits" format and became KITS.

In 1987, KITS began programming Modern Rock music and became known as "Live 105." Among its most popular personalities during this period was Alex Bennett, whose live morning program (complete with studio audience) featured a bevy of local comedians. In May 1997, CBS Radio acquired KITS. Bennett was subsequently replaced by the nationally-syndicated Howard Stern program from New York.
